Destillation

Hi, welcome to my blog again last week we did the evaporation experiment and now we are doing distillation experiment and taking photos and information and put it on my blog.

Aim: To separate a solute from a solvent in a solution using distillation.

Hypothesis:  I think the coke zero will be dark and leave no sugar.

Equipment: A solution of saltwater, conical flask, heatproof mat, a delivery tube and bung, Bunsen burner, tripod, gauze mat, retort stand, boss head and clamp, boiling tube.

Method:

 1. Set up the equipment as shown in the diagram
 2. Add approximately 50 mL of saltwater to your conical flask.
 3. Light your Bunes burner, Open the air hole and gently push the Bunsen burner under the tripod.
 4. Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated. Turn off your Bunsen burner.

Result:
The result  Is the coke zero was not kind of dark but my thinking in the hypothesis that it will leave no sugar but there is like a little bit of sugar there but not many and the solvent was clear when you look at it.

Discussion:
In the tube inside on it, it's solvent, the solvent is started evaporating, the bowl started boiling when you heat it up the zero coke started boiling and the solvent started evaporating then after all done the solvent was clear like water and no like any colour something inside the stopper. Inside the flask was like no water but there is little bit of water left and same as sugar and the colour of the coke zero is dark black with a little bit of brown.

Conclusion:
So first we did is put the coke zero in the flask then we put it on the element then like suddenly the coke zero was boiling it up and then we take a picture on it so we can blog it on our blog then we went to the lunch and comeback in period 5 then we come back here our teacher did and Finnish it off our work and then we take a picture the coke zero is like the colour is dark black with kind of brown and there is sugar leftover same as water.

Making pikelets

On Tuesday, we are making pikelets with a group of Four, When I heard the teacher said that we are going to make pikelets, I feel like so happy because it's my favourite dessert and I really like it. While we are working with groups, 1 of our teacher called 1 of us in each group and ask that whats our we cooking and what they connect for raising agent. When my group making the pikelets I take a photo and I thought I take it good picture but I take it bad picture because I was like being a hurry because we are going to cook the pikelets.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 2 tbs caster sugar
  • 1 egg lightly beaten

Dilution Experiment

On Monday we did the dilution experiment with groups, Im with Hassanin and Paea, While my group doing the experiment I was taking a photo, 1 of our science teacher take us photo after we did the experiment.

Aim: To make a dilution series to investigate the concentration.

Equipment: A potassium permanganate crystal, six large test tubes, tweezers, a plastic transfer pipette, test tube rack, 10 ml measuring cylinder.

Method: 1. Place the six test tubes in a test tube rack. Label the rack with number 1-6.

2. Using the measuring cylinder, fill test tube 1 with 10 ml of water, Fill the remaining test tube with 5 ml of water.

3.  Using your tweezers, add a single crystal of potassium permanganate to test tube 1.

4. Gently shake the test tube until the crystal has dissolved.

5. using the transfer pipette, carefully remove exactly 5 ml from test tube 1 and pour it into the test tube 2.

6.   Rinse the transfer pipette thoroughly to ensure that no purple solution remains.

7. Gently shake the test tube 2 and repeat the transfer process, transferring exactly 5 ml of solution from test tube 2 to test tube 3.

8. Rinse the pipette again and repeat the transfer process for test tube 4, 5 and 6.

Result:

Conclusion/discussion:

When I and my group did that we can see that the colour is getting to get clear so there is 6 large six tubes and the first tubes is not clear colour it's very dark and the last one is very clear so we can see the colouring is getting clear and dark.

What did you see and why: I see the 6 tubes are getting the same colour and getting dark and clear and it's working good and the colouring is working and changing it to the other tubes we get 5 ml in the first tubes and then put it on the next tubes and then get another 5 ml and put it on other tubes until in the last tubes.
